Purpose of Job

The Fleet Maintenance Operator supports the Fleet Maintenance Team by executing maintenance, inspection, repair, and compliance activities on Dangerous Goods (DG) vehicles, road tankers, trailers, ancillary equipment, and fleet support systems. The role ensures the safe, reliable, and legally compliant operation of the fleet through adherence to maintenance standards, transport legislation, fleet management processes, and safety requirements. The incumbent contributes to fleet availability, operational reliability, asset integrity, and continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with company procedures, legal requirements, and Enablon reporting standards.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Apply and maintain safety standards in the working environment, with specific focus on Dangerous Goods vehicles and transport operations.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and work planning discussions.
  • Carry out work according to approved maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors on work progress, identified defects, and maintenance requirements.
  • Support preventative and corrective maintenance activities on vehicles, trailers, tankers, and associated fleet equipment.
  • Conduct routine vehicle, trailer, and equipment inspections to identify defects and support fleet reliability.
  • Identify faults and report abnormalities to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations.
  • Participate in root cause analyses and provide input relating to equipment failures and recurring defects.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with company procedures, transport regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards in workshops, depots, maintenance facilities, and work areas.
  • Assist in ensuring maintenance records, inspection findings, and work feedback are accurately captured.
  • Conduct Enablon inspections and report safety observations, incidents, hazards, and near misses.
  • Attend training courses and development programmes in accordance with the training matrix.
  • Identify personal training and development needs and incorporate them into PDP discussions with the supervisor in support of career progression.
  • Support fleet availability and operational reliability by completing assigned tasks within agreed deadlines.
  • Participate in vehicle safety inspections, compliance audits, and fleet improvement initiatives.
  • Support the management of critical spares, tools, and maintenance materials within the work area.
  • Attend and participate in PDAs, RCAs, and continuous improvement activities to improve fleet safety, compliance, and reliability.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the own area of responsibility.

 

Formal Education

To be considered for this discipline you need : 

  •  a completed National Senior Certificate 
  • • Technical Mathematics or Mathematics SG/HG
  • • English/Business English SG/HG
  • • Physical Science SG/HG

 

OR

  • A full N3 certificate with Mathematics, Engineering Science, Business English 

 

AND

 

• NQFL 3  Mechanical occupational qualification(Must)

 

Driving requirements

  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
  • Dangerous Goods Driver Certification
