Purpose of Job
Global Coordination of procurement and certain operational activities for transportation services of ocean bulk and overseas (ISO,BOX) transportation for IC. Deliver and design an optimized Marine freight strategy that levers of Sasol’s global marine footprint to ensure efficient and cost-effective movement of products across the globe.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure competitive positioning in global Marine for IC by evaluation of valid principles for market access / contracting using various market research principles.
- Evaluation of direct market access vs. exclusive agents/broker services
- Evaluation of overseas contracting: forwarders vs. direct contracting shipping lines
- Development of contracting guidelines for regional procurement activities for the following:
- Overseas RFQ’s
- Regional/National Shipping (cabotage)
- Local Barging - Optimizing efficiency and performance of Sasol intercompany ocean bulk transportation chains on an end-to-end basis.
- Aligning Sasol intercompany shipping transportation to ensure suitable movements are in place that deliver the best solutions for Sasol International Chemicals as a whole.
- Delivering strategic guidance to coastal terminal managers on key elements of marine freight received from Africa/Europe.
- Manage all Marine related certifications and mandatory regulatory reporting such as CTPAT, ISO and other industry standard requirements.
- For International chemicals transportation chains out of RSA to US, EUR, Asia; represent IC during collaboration with Sasol South Africa (Single point of contact for IC), coordinating requirements, monitoring performance while optimizing overall cost (e.g. demurrage).
- Coordinate commercial activities with multi-region service providers (e.g. tank-storage provider)
Formal Education
- University Bachelors Degree
Working Experience
- 10+ years' experience in Logistics Management
- Experience in SAP R/3 or S4/Hana Logistic processes
Required Personal/Professional Skills
- Deep practical knowledge in ocean shippig and related services: surveying, bulk storage operations, loading&discharge procdures
- Strong negotiation skills, distinct own initiative, strong resilience, leadership, teamwork, communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Cross-region coordination capabilities (analytical, creative, abstraction, conceptual).
- English language (business grade, oral and written)
