Purpose of Job
Manage laboratory with its resources and cultivate team collaboration in view of delivering outstanding results. Build effective networks internally and externally to get things done. Build effective relationships upwards, downwards, and sideways. Ensure that legal and commercial processes are followed. Readily share information and knowledge with peers and throughout the division. Use opportunities and appropriate communication tools to effectively communicate information.
Key Accountabilities
Manage shift scheduling and time & attendance for lab personnel;
Negotiate with the Schedulers and Lab Senior Standby for the scheduling of work during weekends and after hours/ Manage overtimes and exceptional hours;
Effectively manage all laboratory resources including Human Capital;
Ensure that all results are authorized on time (with specific emphasis on high priority and critical analysis results);
Implement all relevant systems and processes of the business / project in use, relating to safety, according to established standards;
Assist in the decision-making process when in need from sampling to releasing of results;
Manage the laboratory inventory through (placing requisitions, issuing of materials to the lab technicians; control and optimize stock of consumables);
Propose and discuss the training needs for the laboratory team with your superior;
Guarantee that all Sasol safety systems are fully adhered to by all Laboratory staff;
Apply standards that governs laboratory such as: ISO 17025; ISO 9001; ISO 14001;
Review regularly and implement procedures & working instructions in alignment with Sasol guidelines;
Ensure that all the instruments are in safe working conditions and all services including calibrations are up to date;
Drive Root Cause Analysis in case of serious deviations or incidents in view to avoid recurrence;
Contribute with suggestions to optimize equipment, systems and procedures;
Digitize and share information about new equipment, technical and method developments;
Coordinate and manage all internal and external audit planning (Preparation and participate). Keep all files up to date and all audit requirements on ISO 900, 14001 and 17025;
Good understanding of laboratory systems such as: LIMS;
User friendly of management systems such as SAP.
