Purpose of Job
This position acts as the Wells Expert for all Sasol’s Mozambique Assets. The position is responsible for executing the well surveillance programmes to ensure the well stock is available to meet production demands and all wells are safe to operate through well examination. The position manages wells within the Mozambique Assets to ensure integrity and well intervention programs are carried out to maintain gas supply to the Central Processing Facility and Integrated Production Facility. This is a critical part of the production operations making sure gas supply is secure. This position would also be responsible for input into projects for any developments that have wells as part of the facilities.
Key Accountabilities
Assure the safety and continued integrity of the well at any time within its well life cycle. Manages well examination schemes and Well Integrity Management System (WIMS).
Manages the preparation of well programmes for execution with regards to well intervention.
Manages tenders by setting bid evaluation criteria and conducting technical assessments.
Monitors all well performance trends to look for deviations from normal operating parameters. Manages the collating and preparation of inspection reports as part of the auditable documentation required to ensure well integrity.
Proposes well remediation plans including well workovers using drilling rigs, coil tubing or wireline equipment and service providers.
Manages the design and implementation of critical valve testing and all Safety Critical Element testing. Manages hand over & well file documentation.
This position will supervise the Well Services and Integrity Team Leads in the field for day-to-day well maintenance and well interventions. The position will also supervise the Well Engineers and the Well Integrity Engineers of various levels of experience/seniority. The incumbent is expected to be in the field to lead and manage work programmes. Being a coach and mentor and ensuring skills transfer is an essential component of this position.
The wells managed by the incumbent form the backbone of the production from the Mozambique Assets, any possible integrity failure and subsequent shut-in reducing the gas production needs to be avoided.
Well intervention work and well workover programmes are in the region of several hundred thousand to several million US$
Minimum requirements
B. Engineering Degree OR B. Tech Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Petroleum OR Drilling);
Post-graduate degree in an Engineering would be advantageous;
Minimum 15 years relevant experience, with 5 years at leader or supervisor level;
At least 15 years in well operations;
Well servicing – maintenance and well interventions;
Gas & Oil production operations and well completions;
Well integrity management systems;
Well examination scheme, development, and implementation;
Well Integrity Engineer or Drilling Engineer.
