Location

Purpose of Job

Supports the commissioning and start-up effort and into operations through operating process equipment, systems and processes for a specific plant/unit within the Sasol environment to achieve production requirements in a safe manner

Key Accountabilities

Complete commissioning and start-up training as per matrix

Execution of commissioning tasks as per Shift Leader’s instruction

Participate in punching activities

Execute cleaning and flushing activities

Operation of applicable equipment

Plant inspection and defect reporting

Safe start-up and shutdown of equipment

Identify and solve problems of applicable equipment

Participates in shift handover meetings

Provides adequate feedback to supervisor on work progress
Participates in root cause analyses, and provides feedback to RCA teams
Participates in risk assessments according to legislation and company requirements to improve safety

Issue Permit to Work

Ensure Equipment safe-making and handover to maintenance

Prepare and issue Daily Reports

Perform Plant Alarm settings

Understand Plant Trip settings

Execute Plant Distributed Control System (DCS) Functions

Perform Plant Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Controls functions

Maintains good housekeeping and adheres to waste disposal procedures
Work Independently

Understand and know the business, drives and KPIs

Apply and maintain safety in a working environment

MANAGEMENT

Participates in shift handover meetings

Provides adequate feedback to supervisor on work progress

Participates in root cause analyses, and provides feedback to RCA teams

Participates in risk assessments according to legislation and company requirements to improve safety

Maintains good housekeeping and adheres to waste disposal procedures

Work Independently

Understand and know the business, drives and KPIs

Contribute to the development of training modules

LEADERSHIP AND GROWTH

Identifies personal training and development needs and incorporates into PDP with group leader's approval.

Conduct on the job coaching of commissioning team and learners
Presentation on specific plant equipment

CUSTOMER AND RELATIONSHIP

Conducts IMS inspections to maintain and improve plant sustainability

Work effectively in a team

Attends and interacts in PDAs and RCAs to improve plant safety and stability

Play an appropriate main role during emergency situations to get the plant back on line

Give and receive feedback to other disciplines (partners on daily issues)

Stakeholder relationship management

INNOVATION AND IMPROVEMENT

Gives input at “toolbox talks” to improve plant safety

Identify continuous improvement opportunities in own work area

Improve practices and/or equipment

Formal Education

  • NQF Level 4 Occupational/ Vocational in Industrial Chemical Process Operations
  • High School diploma in chemical industry

Working Experience

2 – 5 years in production or processing in Chemical Industry/extractive/mining/metallurgy or related fields
