Purpose of Job

• Lead and guide colleagues in the instrumentation & control and production fraternities to ensure plant availability and efficient operation.
• Manage resource allocation and indicate timeously resourcing needs towards the execution of projects and support to operations.
• To utilise authoritative levels of experience in instrumentation & control engineering for managing and / or executing complex and / or specialised design, engineering, development, repair and/ or modification of instrumentation & control equipment, devices, and plant.
• To coach and guide fellow team members, including maintenance, junior instrumentation & control, and production personnel team members in matters related to instrumentation & control process and equipment functionality and operability.
• To perform technical assessment of any improvement projects/ideas raised, for smooth and value-adding implementation.
• To focus on current and future asset performance improvement opportunities to ensure that optimisation of processes and equipment takes place successfully.
• To liaise with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and OPMs (Original Parts Manufacturers) in discussions of technical matters involving instrumentation & control equipment and devices upgrades and installation.

Key Accountabilities

•    Develop and maintain critical competency and guide talent development of team members;
•    Pilot and test relevant technology to improve Sasol operations by maximising availability and production outputs; 
•    Obsolescence and risk-based asset management planning; 
•    Develop and maintain work standards and ensure it is met according to quality, quantity and due dates;
•    Develop, maintain and manage the discipline specific systems, tools, policies and procedures for the execution of projects;
•    Manage subordinates to have expert knowledge on area specific equipment like e.g transmitters and control valves to be able to maximise availability and production outputs;
•    Liaise with external engineering companies to share in knowledge and benchmark;
•    Manage the service contracts in the budget applicable to function being managed;
•    Pilot and test plant modifications executed correctly with high quality;
•    Ensure new plant construction design quality within budget, schedule and risk profile;
•    Ensure compliance with legal requirements, policies and standards;
•    Adhere and provide input to Sasol specifications and Engineering standards;
•    Review Sasol policies for applicability and implementation;
•    Develop deviation concessions and concession registers to Sasol specifications for small project execution; 
•    Ensure personal development plans are completed, implemented and tracked within applicable career path; 
•    Maintain healthy and stable relationships with contractors and consultants;
•    Operate successfully in a diverse work environment.
