Purpose of Job
Responsible for doing inspections on Pipeline Operations network assets to prevent and minimise the risk of third-party intervention and subsequent damage to the gas pipeline network and other Pipeline Operations assets
Key Accountabilities
• Conduct visual inspections on gas station and pipeline related equipment
• Conduct site meetings
• Issue permits and perform safe making duties
• Perform safety standby duties when required
• Conduct pipeline safety awareness
• Report all unsafe conditions to line manager and load notifications
• Examine equipment and complete safety checklist
• Respond to emergencies
• Operate pressure reduction and customer metering stations on the pipeline network
• Inspect and operate the pigging receiver station
• Operate the valve on the gas/fuel pipe line network
• Responsible for Cathodic Protection recordings
• Conduct housekeeping of stations
• Perform planting and painting of route markers
• Grass cutting inside stations and on the servitude
• Maintain pipeline routes
• Conduct fault finding and incident investigations
• Liaise with stakeholders (e.g. local communities, municipal representatives)
• Perform overtime, call out and be on standby when required
• Manage allocated vehicle (cleanliness)
• Manage allocated Sasol cell phone, tablet and GPS unit
Formal Education
Grade 12 with Maths, Science and English or N3 Maths & Engineering Science (must)
NQF certificate in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation (wish/preference)
N certificate in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation (wish/preference)
Valid Code 10 drivers' license and ability to drive (must)
Work Experience
Maintenance Operator Gr2: Mechanical – 1 year experience as Trainee Gas Pipeline Controller, Maintenance Operator/Assistant OR Process Controller
Maintenance Operator Gr 1: Mechanical – 2-year experience as Gas Pipeline Controller Gr 2, Maintenance Operator Gr 2 OR Process Controller Gr 2
Additional experience required:
- PtW issuing competency
- Safety Standby and Gas monitor experience
- OSH Act experience (wish)
- Computer literacy
- Basic hand tools
