Purpose of Job

To operate process equipment and systems at Komatipoort compressor station within the Sasol environment to achieve production requirements in a safe manner.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operate processes at Komatipoort compressor station
  • Start up and shutdown processes according to standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Operate plant and equipment under normal operating conditions as per SOP’s
  • Communicate and assist team members in controlling the plant process
  • Perform sampling for quality testing and fault finding purposes
  • Perform inspections on equipment (valves, pumps, vessels, etc.)
  • Examine equipment and complete safety checklists and procedures to maintain and improve plant stability
  • Identify and correct abnormal conditions in the plant
  • Commission and de-commission plant equipment and systems (New projects, plant modifications and pre/post maintenance work)
  • Adhere to SHERQ standards
  • Comply with legal requirements
  • Loading and off-loading of hazardous and non-hazardous products/ chemicals
  • Execute tasks safely and economically
  • Report and respond to incidents, hazardous conditions and/or emergencies
  • Identify and report deviations and all unsafe conditions to Foreman
  • Loading and prioritization of SAP notifications
  • Conduct fault finding and incident investigations
  • Adhere to permit to work procedure
  • Issue permits (if required) and perform safe making duties
  • Conduct basic risk assessments
  • Exchange information on process conditions at handover (completion of log sheets)
  • Perform overtime and be on shift cover when required
  • Complete training as per training matrix requirements
  • Practice good housekeeping
  • Take lead during emergency exercise / response onsite
  • Assists with the review and development of SOP’s
  • Conducts on the job coaching of learners and team members
  • Work 12-hour shifts

Formal Education

  • Grade 12 with Maths, Science and English / N3 certificate (must)
  • NQF4 certificate in Chemical Operations (must)
  • Valid Driver’s license – Min Code 08 (must)

Working Experience

  • 3+ years relevant experience in a similar work environment
  • PtW issuing competency
  • Safety Standby and Gas monitor experience
  • OSH Act experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic hand tools
