Purpose of Job
Maintenance Planner purpose is to ensure proper planning and estimating of maintenance work notifications. Maintenance planners will ensure plans consider safety as well as work execution aspects of each job. Maintenance planners will work closely with gatekeepers, schedulers, and maintenance supervisors to ensure backlogs are properly planned and ready to schedule. Maintenance planners’ purpose is to develop standard plans that can be used as a basis for future work. This is a key role in the development of work packages to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient work that align with engineering and maintenance workflows.
Key Accountabilities
Work with Production Maintenance Coordinators and Supervisors to ensure notifications clearly communicate hazards along with work scope execution needs. · Will field walk jobs to ensure: o Plans follow safety and engineering work processes. o Plans reflect real field conditions. o Reviews are held and hazards are understood. · Will be responsible to develop a pre-task risk plan for safety for each planned job. · Will be responsible to learn other roles and at times backfill roles such as Maintenance supervisor or schedulers. · Responsible for planning, of maintenance activities for systems throughout their assigned areas. · Accountable for alignment of planning processes with intended scope. · Create detailed work orders and cost estimates. · Provide QA/QC planning of field execution activities. · Provide assurance that developed plans are stored in a repository for developed plans and create or update task list as needed. · Owner and chair of the weekly and daily maintenance/planning meetings. · Accountable to work with Production Maintenance Coordinators to ensure notifications and work orders are properly prioritized for planning. · Responsible to maintain a planned backlog for their assigned areas. · Manages internal and external planning activities for their assigned production unit(s). · Ensures resources and material are properly vetted for all crafts before work orders are being “Released for Schedule (RTS)”. · Ensure maintenance work processes are followed. · Actively pursue planning excellence using data to improve “Completed As Scheduled” work. · Coordinates with Operations and Maintenance Supervision to ensure efficient/effective plans and schedules are maintained. · Reviews work plans to ensure they are improved when field execution is completed. · Will work hand in hand with Production Maintenance Coordinators, Schedulers, and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure workflow is optimized. · Oversight of Maintenance planning activities within multiple operating units and area of expertise. · Responsible to lead and coordinate development and communication of planned work. · Will be required to step up into Supervisor roles at times to Supervise the daily field activities of Sasol and contract maintenance services. · Will be required to lead contract planners as necessary. · Participates in reviews and meetings for maintenance services. · Provides a point of contact for unit planning needs. · Capable to plan for multiple crafts and ensure their compliance to plant policies and procedures · Will recognize their capabilities and will reach out to others for understanding when necessary. · Coordinates closely with the Operations, Engineering, Inspections to ensure efficient and effective planning of maintenance activities. · Interacts with Operations, Process Technology, Project Engineering, Laboratory, Process Safety Management Department, Training Department and the Environmental Department. Also interacts with external infrastructure and service providers
Formal Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Working Experience
- 5+ years of Industry related experience
- Experience in planning/scheduling routine work
- Experience in turnaround/outage management preferred
- Knowledge of codes and standards
Required Personal/ Professional Skills
- SAP knowledge
- Microsoft Office Knowledge
- Planning / Scheduling Knowledge
- Multi skill set or the ability to learn other skills.
