Purpose of Job

Ensure the installed plant control system is available and serves the needs of unit operations in a safe and efficient manner.  Work with process unit operations and process support groups to develop continuous improvements through use of controls or process modifications.  Work independently supporting process units’ business objectives, without unscheduled interruptions to operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provides day-to-day first level operations support regarding unit specific control issues
  • Collaborate with support groups (Process Engineering, Project Engineering, I&E Maintenance), to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions
  • Recommend, develop, and implement small to extensive changes to plant instrumentation, process control strategies and control systems for assigned units based on reviews of plant operations
  • Ensure effective use of control technology through training Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel to improve understanding of control system functionality
  • Determine the additional process control resources required to solve control related problems and determine when problem resolution requires non-process control related solutions
  • Serve as a process control and automation “point of contact” for project additions for production, safety, or maintenance improvements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to process control systems, including equipment failures, software bugs, and communication errors
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations

Formal Education

  • Associates Degree in Electrical, Electronics Technology, Industrial Instrumentation Technology with 10+ years of relevant experience or
  • University Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Instrumentation Technology with 5+ year of relevant experience or
  • University Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineer

Working Experience

  • Knowledge of Process Units both batch and continuous within process industries.
  • Knowledge of Process Control Systems including advanced regulatory control.
  • Expertise in one or more Distributed Control (DCS) Systems and databases. (eg. Emerson DeltaV )
  • Expertise in one or more Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of operating systems (such as Windows, MS Office Products).
  • Experience programming one or more languages (C, Visual Basic, SQL…).
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Modbus TCP, Profibus).

  • Must be able to work with teams or independently depending on problem needs.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with computers and applications especially MS Office 365 Suite
