Purpose of Job

Develops and implements asset strategies to maximize mechanical reliability, optimize costs, and ensure long-term performance utilizing the GE APM database. Works closely with unit operations, maintenance, inspection, and technology teams to troubleshoot and investigate equipment failures, identifying and eliminating bad actors. Collaborates with internal and external peers to foster a results-oriented Reliability Centered Culture.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology to support Maintenance, Operations, and Inspection teams in managing fixed/static equipment. Apply RBI principles to prioritize inspection and maintenance activities based on risk, degradation mechanisms, and criticality.
  • Assess short- and long-term risks associated with fixed equipment, offering timely recommendations to mitigate integrity concerns and optimize inspection intervals.
  • Develop, review, and implement RBI inspection plans, including scopes for inspection, repair, or replacement of critical equipment, ensuring alignment with integrity management programs, regulatory codes (API/ASME), and reliability objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for risk reduction and long-term reliability improvements for fixed equipment to extend asset life, reduce unplanned downtime, and minimize maintenance costs, focusing on high-criticality and repeat-failure assets.
  • Monitor and analyze inspection data, thickness readings, corrosion trends, and equipment notifications to identify emerging risks and update inspection priorities accordingly.
  • Track and report on RBI performance metrics, updating the Asset Management Plan as needed.
  • Ensure Mechanical Integrity and RBI compliance across units, clearly communicating findings, recommendations, and risk-based inspection outcomes to Unit Inspectors and the Fixed Equipment Team Lead.
  • Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Operations, Reliability, and Inspection teams to foster a proactive, risk-informed mechanical integrity culture.
  • Communicate risk assessment results, inspection findings, and technical recommendations in clear, structured reports and presentations to support informed decision-making and safe, reliable operations.
  • Ensure CMMS systems (GE APM, DMS, SAP/PM) are kept up to date, providing clear and accurate reports of the most recent and upcoming inspections. Planning should include projected inspections for the next 5 years

Formal Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or correlated engineering (Metallurgical, Material, Chemical, Petroleum)
  • Required: API 580
  • Required: API inspector Certifications API 510/570

Working Experience

  •  6+ years of experience working with fixed/static equipment in industrial environments, with exposure to inspection planning, RBI, mechanical integrity programs, failure analysis, and repair/turnaround execution.
  •  3+ years direct experience working in the GEAPM database

Required Personal and Professional Skills

  • The Risk Based Inspection Specialist must have strong technical knowledge of fixed/static equipment, including pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and other mechanical assets, with proficiency in inspection, maintenance, and reliability practices and a solid understanding of industry standards such as API 510, 570, 653, ASME Section VIII, and B31.3. Experience with Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), Fitness-for-Service assessments (API 579), CMMS, and integrity management tools is highly desirable. The role requires the ability to analyze degradation mechanisms, interpret inspection data, conduct Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs), and develop technically sound maintenance and repair recommendations.
  • Equally important are strong personal and professional skills, including effective communication, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment, while demonstrating ownership, accountability, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating mechanical integrity risks and fostering a culture of reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.
