It acts as a key interface between customers, sales, operations, research, supply chain and industry stakeholders, ensuring that product performance, incident resolution, technical marketing support, customer requirements and market-development opportunities are translated into practical, value-adding technical solutions. The role also guides technical capability development, supports business improvement and new-opportunity assessment, and ensures that technical outputs strengthen competitiveness, customer confidence and long-term value delivery.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide senior technical guidance on product quality, technical applications, specifications and customer-value propositions across the Commercial Solutions portfolio, ensuring alignment between technical delivery, business strategy and customer requirements.
  • Customer technical support: Ensure effective technical market support, product and application troubleshooting, incident investigation, problem solving and optimisation for existing and new Energy products and customers, with a focus on fit-for-purpose solutions and sustained customer confidence.
  • Cross-functional Integration: Lead the interface between customers, sales, operations, research, supply chain, marketing and product teams to ensure technical requirements are translated into practical solutions, governance processes, technical claims, marketing material, training material and implementation support.
  • Industry and Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Sasol in relevant industry, technical and regulatory forums and build strategic relationships with customers, suppliers, standards organisations, industry associations and internal stakeholders to inform business decisions, influence specifications and protect Sasol’s technical and commercial interests.
  • Product Roadmap and Development: Develop and execute technical product and service roadmaps that support business strategy, product differentiation, sustainability, cost optimisation and market competitiveness. Identify gaps in the product and service offering and translate these into opportunities for improved customer satisfaction and business growth.
  • Governance and Quality Assurance: Provide direction for product and quality governance processes, including technical standards, operating protocols, product proof points, stage-gate or development processes, quality requirements, technical claims and fit-for-purpose product introduction into existing and future markets.
  • Training and Team Leadership: Provide technical leadership, coaching and expertise transfer to team members and stakeholders. Support the development of technical competence, facilitate knowledge sharing, and help ensure that delivery commitments and technical outputs are aligned to business needs.
  • Budget Accountability: Plan, motivate and manage technical service provider budgets, fixed-cost requirements, Capex requirements and resources to leverage technical capability and deliver cost-effective outcomes within risk parameters.

Formal Education

  • 4 year degree in Engineering and/or Science or equivalent

Min Experience

  • 12+ relevant years, preferably including substantial experience in energy products, product quality, technical services, customer support, product development, technical governance, specifications, operations and/or commercial applications

Competencies

  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to guide multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment between technical service delivery, product performance, customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Problem Solving: Advanced critical thinking and analytical capability; proven track record in resolving complex product, application, customer and operational challenges using methodical and evidence-based approaches.
  • Total Quality Management: Commitment to continuous improvement through systematic measurement, customer focus, and process support to ensure consistent high-quality outputs and fit-for-purpose products and services.

  • Collaboration and Partnering: Proven ability to build and maintain beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, sales, operations, research, supply chain, suppliers and industry bodies.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to articulate complex technical and commercial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, supporting technical alignment, stakeholder buy-in and practical decision-making.
