Purpose of Job

  • Develop, advise on, and direct the implementation of trade mark, domain name and other related Intellectual Property (IP) services within the Sasol Group.
  • Manage Sasol Group’s IP interests and provide legal advice on tactical decisions related to intellectual property rights.

Key Accountabilities

  • Formulate and implement group-wide IP functional policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Continuously perform IP due diligence and ensure that the Group’s trade mark and Domain Name assets are identified, protected and exploited in accordance with the trade mark and domain name strategy at a commercially acceptable cost.
  • Contribute to the development of the Group’s IP Strategy and Philosophy and procedures for the Sasol Group.
  • Review and verify data integrity in IP management systems and databases.
  • Participate in IP review meetings.
  • Negotiate and draft IP provisions in IP and technology contracts.
  • Identify IP risk elements and quantify overall risk. Recommend mitigating controls based on best practices.
  • Pinpoint legislation changes that have a potential impact on Sasol Group’s intellectual property rights.
  • Develop specialised trade mark and domain name sensitisation training content
  • Monitor compliance to formal IP governance requirements.
  • Manage tactical approach between IP team, client, and external counsel.
  • Implement Sasol Group's risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver solutions to meet changing business and work requirements.
  • Continuously improve own skills and knowledge. Complete, implement, and track personal development plan to attain personal performance goals.

Formal Education

  •  Relevant University Degree/ LLB degree

Working Eperience

  • 9+ relevant years

Certification & Professional Membership

  • Qualified Admitted Attorney (non-practicing roll)
  • Certified Trade Mark Practitioner
