Purpose of Job
The Principal Quality Practitioner is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and sustaining a robust Quality Management System within the Chemicals and Energy Marketing & Sales division. The role ensures that products and services consistently meet Sasol quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. Acting as a central liaison between production, planning and optimisation, R&T, sales, customers, toll manufacturers, and test laboratories, the role provides quality oversight across operational and analytical environments to ensure integrity, reliability, and compliance throughout the product lifecycle.This position supports effective quality assurance processes by facilitating cross functional collaboration, managing quality documentation and product specifications, and addressing customer related quality matters. Through its involvement in quality control, nonconformance investigations, and analytical assessments, the role strengthens quality discipline and supports informed product usage decisions. Overall, the Principal Quality Practitioner contributes to regulatory compliance, consistent quality performance, and reliable product delivery that reinforces customer trust across the value chain.The position operates as a technical quality interface between between internal and external stakeholders. It contributes to the management of quality assurance activities by coordinating information flow, supporting issue resolution, and ensuring that quality documentation and data are accurate, current, and fit for purpose. With a specific focus on toll manufacturing laboratory and operational environments, the role supports the application of quality control requirements, reviews analytical data and batch documentation, and contributes to product usage decisions in line with approved specifications and regulatory frameworks. The Principal Quality Practitioner assists with the investigation of analytical deviations, customer complaints, and nonconformances, ensuring that corrective actions are tracked and closed within agreed timelines.
Key Accountabilities
A. Toll Manufacturing–Specific Accountabilities
Customer & Issue Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for quality inquiries, complaints, and feedback related to toll manufacturing and tolling processes.
- Liaise with customers, toll manufacturers, and analytical service providers to manage customer complaints and non‑conformances arising from toll manufacturing production and outsourced analytical services.
- Lead investigations into customer complaints and monitor the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with toll production, laboratories, and technical teams.
Quality Assurance Across Tolling Value Chain
- Ensure alignment between Sasol SA Chemicals, toll manufacturers, and external laboratories regarding quality expectations, documentation standards, and product compliance.
- Provide quality oversight across toll manufacturing production sites and external laboratory testing environments.
- Evaluate analytical data and tolling batch records to inform product usage decisions in alignment with specifications and regulatory requirements.
Documentation, Compliance, and Release
- Support documentation control, batch record review, and release processes for toll-manufactured products.
- Generate Quality Assurance Monitoring Reports for toll manufacturing and laboratory QC processes—tracking compliance metrics, identifying analytical trends, highlighting deviations, and recommending corrective actions.
- Facilitate proper coordination of the non-conformance system (SAP) and administer BU non-conformances related to toll production and contract laboratories.
- Create, change, or update product specifications related to toll-manufactured products when required.
B. General Quality Practitioner Accountabilities (Quality & Assurance and Certification Team)
QMS Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable national and international quality standards, industry regulations, and internal Sasol policies.
- Conduct regular internal audits to verify QMS effectiveness and to identify improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate scheduled audits with internal and external auditors.
- Provide ongoing quality oversight across laboratory and production environments.
Quality Systems, Documentation & Change Control
- Manage change control for quality documentation.
- Coordinate the development, review, and maintenance of procedures, formulations, and scopes of work.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Document Management System (DMS).
- Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the archiving system.
- Ensure closure of all business actions within agreed timelines through follow‑up and escalation where necessary.
Business Support & Quality Expertise
- Provide quality guidance and expertise to Marketing & Sales teams on product specifications, quality documentation, certificates of analysis, and product application requirements.
- Track BU-specific objectives, targets, and programs related to quality improvement and QMS performance.
- Build and maintain effective networks with equipment suppliers and technical service personnel.
Formal Education
- University Bachelor’s Degree
