Purpose of Job
• To implement a risk-based approach for Energy products throughout the product's lifecycle to enable the safe, sustainable and compliant management of products.
• To determine the legal landscape for Energy products.
• To develop or coordinate the development of Product Hazard Communication documentation and to obtain relevant scientific Chemical information required.
• To ensure the implementation of the Responsible Care ® Product Stewardship management practice standard for Energy.
• To manage legal compliance of Energy products.
• To analyse and recommend emerging legal trends ensuring product sustainability and external marketability of Sasol products.
• To provide and share specialist knowledge and expertise with all customers of Energy products both externally and internally.
Key Accountabilities
Determine the Legal compliance landscape for SBU products:
• Interpret local, national and international chemical control legislation; requirements and risks for all Energy products
• Review and maintain legal risk register and controls, and facilitate implementation of recommended controls for Energy
• Implement and maintain compliance programmes to address Energy product regulatory compliance
Manage legal compliance of Sasol Products:
• Coordinate the gathering of information for the management of customer product regulatory inquiries and for determining the product legal risk landscape
• Respond to customer product regulatory inquiries for all Energy products
• Develop declarations and letters to address customer product regulatory inquiries within the governance framework and positions for Product Stewardship
• Coordinate the obtaining of legal advice to address inquiries within the governance frameworks for Product Stewardship
• Develop and facilitate approval of the relevant compliance documentation, such as annual declarations (e.g. Conflict Minerals Declaration)
Sasol Product Hazard Communication compilation and maintenance:
• Compile and/or review Product Hazard Communication documentation within the governance framework and quality system for Product Stewardship
• Gather of product hazard data for the purposes of Product Hazard Communication documentation
• Maintain clear, accurate, and auditable records of the classification methodology applied to each product in accordance with GHS requirements
• Communicate Hazard Communication documentation to relevant stakeholders and publish on applicable system(s)
• Review and approval of product labels where relevant (e.g. lubricant labels)
Implementation of Responsible Care® Product Stewardship requirements:
• Interpret and analyse the Responsible Care® Product Stewardship requirements for Energy within the governance framework for Product Stewardship
• Ensure the implementation and maintenance of Responsible Care® Product Stewardship controls for Energy
• Participate in the Responsible Care® Product Stewardship audit for Energy and ensure response to findings
• Maintain a repository of suitable product defense supporting information (Product Portfolio) to protect Energy against product misinformation, regulatory challenges, or reputational risks
• Actively drive and/or support and/or participate in product advocacy initiatives to raise awareness regarding product opportunities and/or risks, including product legal compliance and/or sustainability risks
Product risk management and assurance:
• Ensure the adherence to the Product Stewardship requirements of the Stage-gate and BD&I model for product development and/or changes through the fit for purpose protocol
• Support the review and customization of KUE 24 (Product Stewardship KUE) for Energy departments
• Participate and support relevant audits and assurance initiatives with regards to Product Stewardship elements
Product Stewardship Management and Reporting:
• Provide input and support in annual objective and target setting
• Responsible for all relevant reporting against Key Performance Areas
• Maintain and develop relevant product stewardship procedures, work instructions and/or practice notes as / when required
• Maintain product stewardship data and document management in line with relevant policies and software platforms
• Support the investigation of product stewardship incidents and sharing of lessons learnt in line with the prevailing governance frameworks
Formal Education
B Tech University Bachelors Degree/ University Bachelor's Degree (preference to B.Sc. Chemistry and/or Chemical Engineering / and/or equivalent)
Working Experience
6+ relevant years (Bachelor’s degree)
3+ relevant years (Masters or Honours degree)
2+ relevant years (Doctorate degree)
Completion of UNITAR Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (preferred)
