Purpose of Job

Lead Sasol’s enterprise data, AI and digital strategy by translating business priorities into scalable capabilities that deliver measurable value. The role is responsible for driving the adoption of data, AI, automation and digital solutions, embedding responsible governance, and partnering with executive leaders to enhance operational performance, productivity, decision-making and business growth.

Key Accountabilities

Enterprise AI, Data & Digital Strategy

  • Define and execute the enterprise-wide AI, data and digital strategy aligned to business priorities and value creation.
  • Establish strategic roadmaps, investment priorities and high-value AI, automation and digital initiatives.
  • Drive AI adoption from concept to implementation, scaling and value realisation.

 

Business Value Realisation

  • Ensure data, AI and digital initiatives deliver measurable business outcomes, productivity gains and operational improvements.
  • Establish value tracking, adoption measurement and benefits reporting.
  • Partner with business leaders to prioritise, scale, reshape or discontinue initiatives based on realised value.

 

AI, Data & Digital Technology Capability Enablement

  • Lead the industrialisation and scaling of AI, analytics and automation solutions across the enterprise.
  • Define data and AI architecture, platform standards, governance and lifecycle management practices.
  • Ensure solutions are secure, reliable, cost-effective and aligned to enterprise standards.

 

AI and Data Governance

  • Establish enterprise data governance, data quality, stewardship and lifecycle management practices.
  • Lead Responsible AI governance covering ethics, risk, privacy, security, compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure trusted, accessible and fit-for-purpose data assets across the organisation.

 

Workforce Enablement & Capability Building

  • Build enterprise AI and data literacy, adoption capability and communities of practice.
  • Lead and develop high-performing data, AI, analytics and digital transformation teams.
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, responsible innovation and continuous learning.

 

Innovation & Growth

  • Identify and realise opportunities for revenue growth and commercial value through data, AI and digital capabilities.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop scalable digital products, services and future business models.

 

Centre of Excellence Leadership

  • Establish and lead the AI, Data and Digital Centre of Excellence.
  • Define standards, reusable frameworks, delivery methodologies and best practices.
  • Enable consistent, high-quality and scalable AI, data and digital delivery across the enterprise.

Formal Education

  • A relevant University Bachelors Degree 

Formal Experience

  • 16+ years of relevant experience in artificial intelligence, data, analytics, and digital transformation, including senior leadership experience delivering AI and Data capability at scale in a large, complex organisation.
  • Extensive and proven senior leadership experience in AI strategy development and execution, with demonstrable business value realised.
