Purpose of Job

Enable the Engineering Services Technical Support strategy with respect to providing Instrumentation & Control engineering development and support to projects, and identification of improvement opportunities in the Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations (SEO) operations area. The primary area of focus will be the Midland operations site, with secondary support to the other areas across the Sasolburg operations of SEO.

Support SEO Engineering Strategy and assist the operations hub with respect to meeting production targets and relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPls). Provide expertise and guidance to deliver short term as well as long term solutions to the existing and new technical issues.

Key Accountabilities

Manage and/or formulate and execute the design, engineering, development and modification of complex and / or specialised Instrumentation and Control Engineering Projects or Services (Typically Tier 5 and selected Tier 4 and maintenance projects) in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements.Provide Technical support to the Sasolburg Regional Operation Hub (ROH) on instrumentation and control related issues. Provide technical direction to several smaller projects. Identification of optimisation opportunities and capitalising of these opportunities  Coordinate the development and implementation of plant monitoring systems capable to proactively identify potential deviations and risks to production volumes, product quality and equipment integrity from process perspective in short and long terms. Ensure integrity of the Control Systems Networks across Sasolburg Operations (Networks, Cybersecurity Standards etc). Pro-actively identify non-compliances on a project to ensure quality, cost and schedule requirements are adhered to. Ensure adherence to Regulations, Standards and Sasol specifications. Ensure compliance to Hazardous area regulations and requirements with certifications. Keep abreast with Regulations, SASS standards and Sasol specifications & develop new standards / specifications when required

 

Interaction with the P&E, 10 teams to ensure successful execution of projects. Manage the relationship with internal and external service providers applicable to function/discipline. Contribute towards the development of the Control Engineering Function (e.g. Lessons learned, Specification development, training etc.)  Contribution to the Rolling Capital Plan for SEO.  Development of business cases for projects .Willing to do standby as and when required Coaching/Supervision of Engineer in Training as per the Graduate Development Program. Provide assistance and direction to the ROH in terms of best practices with regards to instrumentation and control (design, maintenance, asset management, etc.) to ensure that Operations are able to meet production and SHE targets. Interpretation and understanding of data and business unit drivers for input into improvement plans • Input into the designing and developing of new and existing control systems (DCS, PLCs, ESD and APC systems). Maintenance and optimisation of APC Systems. Critical Control Infrastructure Support Including Cybersecurity. Implement modifications to existing systems . Working collaboratively with other discipline engineers. Provide analytical reports in support of ROH initiatives (e.g. OWAP, plant monitoring, etc.) Provide effective problem solving, as well as producing sound and cost-effective technical solutions to address these issues Shutdown support  Knowledge sharing within technical team Guidance of Engineers, Technologists, Engineers in Training, Maintenance Team (Act as mentor). Supervise and peer reviewing the work of other engineers. Ensure quality of technical proposals and ensure applicable technical governance has been applied through formal peer review process. Ensure compliance to internal/legal requirements during project execution and modifications to plant operation. Well documented Root Cause analyses for all significant loss incidents and major equipment failures. Demonstrate fundamental documentation and tools are in place and still relevant. • Compliance with internal guidelines & policies e.g. Management of Change (MOC) process followed.

Formal Education

University Bachelor's Degree: BSc Eng. (Electronic/Chem) or B Eng. (Chem)

Working Experience

3+ years of experience in the instrumentation and control engineering field
