Purpose of Job

Process engineering support for the Gas loop plants (ATR, Rectisol, Ammonia, Fuel gas blending) to protect and improve production volumes, ensure quality and efficiency performance targets are met, support plant asset health and enable plant sustainability with regards to environmental compliance through monitoring, troubleshooting, improvement initiatives and project development.  

Key Accountabilities

Supports the Process Engineering Lead with respect to meeting requirements for the health of the Gas loop plants. Specific contributions required include but are not limited to:

  • Develop technology knowledge of the specific Gas loop plants, ATR, Rectisol and Ammonia.
  • Develop and implement plant monitoring systems to monitor and proactively identify potential deviations and risk to production volumes, product quality and equipment integrity. Ensuring effective communication to all parties concerned and propose resolutions as required.
  • Problem solving and idea generation on equipment/unit operation.
  • Develop and execute process engineering related improvement plan roadmaps, with focus areas on production volumes, product quality, environmental and safety impact, energy efficiency and feedstock efficiency. The focus will be on short term Volume Protection Plans and longer-term Continuous Improvement Plans with support from internal engineering resources, Small Projects and/or Large Projects P&E resources as well as Licensor input.
  • Initiate modifications and capital expenditure proposals.
  • Carry initiated modifications through the design, implementation and commissioning phases right up to beneficial operation within business specified schedules and cost.
  • Perform technical calculations during the design phase of a project or during problem solving activities. When required locate and select appropriate recognized standards and guidelines when undertaking calculations
  • Ensure compliance with the MOC (Management of Change) system, Capital and project business systems (Project execution model, Sciforma, ARC, etc.). 
  • Play a leadership role to junior members in the team.
  • Contribute to the Capital budgeting process and the 10-year Rolling Capital Plan.
  • Support shutdown planning and execution. Ensure process integrity of equipment is restored, and critical projects are incorporated in shutdown planning and executed safely within project timeline. Recommend improvement opportunities with regard to plant turnarounds, commissioning and startup.
  • Provide process engineering support and input during project execution through management of process interfaces between Operations, P&E, R&T and/or Licensors.
  • Apply Process Engineering standards and best practices, aligned to lessons learnt. Provide quality process engineering input to work allocated and ensuring process engineering governance is followed.
  • Involvement/leading of incident investigations and unusual occurrences.
  • Review and/or develop plant specific technical documentation like operating envelopes, mass and energy balances, baseline assessments, MFDs, operating/training manuals, process simulations, design manuals, and any other technical documentation.
  • Lead and/or assist work efforts and projects/assignments with substantial business impacts and complex technical challenges, value chain.

University B. Eng. / BSc Eng. Degree (Chemical Engineering)

Working Experience

Experience: 5+ relevant years

Certification and Professional Membership

Registration as Professional engineer (strong wish)
