Purpose of Job

Provide a highly specialized service within the industrial electronics, radio communications field and background knowledge of Audio and emergency systems. Deliver maintenance and support service to all plant radio communication (including Tetra radio), industrial electronics and provide standby on fire detection, Fire & Gas, siren systems, electronic systems and audio systems. Ensure that the plant radio systems are maintained and are fully operational, a maintenance strategy are implemented and executed and all work is executed safely in accordance to specifications while maintaining customer relationships.

Key Accountabilities

Technical support and maintenance on TETRA Radio system (SME knowledge). Technical support and maintenance on Paging System (SME knowledge). Technical support and maintenance on Site Siren System (SME knowledge). Technical support, basic maintenance and perform standby on Fire and Gas System. Perform standby, technical support and basic maintenance on the Fire Detection and Suppression Systems. Technical support and maintenance on components to components level. Perform standby, technical support and basic maintenance on the PA and telephone systems. Maintaining of Intrinsic safe quality management system. Intrinsic Safe and Calibration checks on E&C maintained equipment. IP and Network knowledge. Know TETRA and Paging systems software. Know Fire Detection systems software. Knowledge of the RDC radio alarm system – Fire detection. Configuration of Tetra network and program of Radios. Basic knowledge of the Siemens PLC’s. Knowledge of Adroit SCADA software for the fire & Gas. Logically and systematic thinker with regards to problem solving and fault finding. Project management on (ECDS) systems and track cost. Knowledge of SAP (Plant Maintenance). Quality and quantity verification against relevant trade specifications. Knowledge of electronics, UPS and battery chargers. Accountable to ensure 100% availability and up-time of systems. Compile system drawings and maintenance procedures. Facilitate and conduct Root Cause Analysis on failures and implement corrective actions. Specialist service is managed and administered in collaboration with the HoD. Proactively manage service providers, equipment, time and provide budget input using a high degree of discretionary decision making. Planning of daily ECDS work throughout Sasolburg Operations Sites. Recommend and manage appropriate system spares and backups. Develop cost estimates for maintenance and projects on Radio and Emergency Systems and operating facilities. Accountable to prepare Scope of Work on Sasolburg ECDS Systems. Reviewing BOQ and quotations of a job. Follow and refine the Work Management Process (SAP backlog and planning). Perform QA/QC on all Radio and Emergency Systems work within Sasolburg Operations. Providing feedback to customers with regards to time, cost and quality. Measuring performed work and feedback as KPI. Report challenges and maintenance problems to leadership but must be able to negotiate and implement potential solutions. Highlight deviations from planning and take corrective measures accordingly. Interface between Service Provider and Customer during installation, ensuring safety documents' compliance is in place. Highlight risks and non-conformance areas and implement mitigation strategies to control them to acceptable levels. Document project activities and data. Prepare project progress reports to superior. Knowledge of the documentation of the MOC process. Apply evidence-based SHE practices, in alignment with set standards. Keep up to date with technologies in the electronics and communication field -AI. Review site specifications (ECDS) and give input into development of new specifications/standards. Satisfy business objectives through the monitoring of engineering technical standards and adherence to legislative requirements. Must be able to maintain Radio, emergency, audio and Electronics systems (Config, create and replace components in system). Establishing good customer relationships with plant owners. Be able to do standby on all EC systems and to respond in accordance to Standby policies. Must be able to work on radio towers, 60m.

Formal Education

National Diploma Electronics/LC/Electrical Engineering 

Working Experience

7+ Years experience as radio Technician of which minimum 5+ years in industrial electronics and radio systems and 2+ working with emergency communication systems.
