Purpose of Job

Participate in Process Safety strategy, interpret & implement process safety elements based on 1 Sasol SHE Excellence Approach (1S SHE EA).

Evaluate process operations and design through risk assessments. Implement and enable process safety strategy.

Ensure root causes of major and significant process safety incidents are determined. Act as member in process safety Specifications, Standards and Procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Facilitate Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) & ad hoc risk assessments, communicate findings and obtain managements response recommendations.
  • Facilitate/participate in Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSRs), incident investigations and assist in compiling reports/lessons learned/next steps.
  • Identify potential or actual changes, assess effects and improve risk management.
  • Assist Operations on technical aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM), clarify PSM standards and elements. Advise on Safety Case technique info to support regulatory permitting and authorisations.
  • Provide input in design, development and maintenance of PSM system.
  • Provide assurance that PHA information is used in operation of the other PSM elements.
  • Develop and maintain plant specific PSM procedures and related checklists interpreting standards, procedures, specifications and guidelines.
  • Drive PSM initiatives and plant rollout embedding PSM system.
  • Conduct MHI studies, analyse regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Advise on land use/spatial planning for operational areas.
  • Identify potential process, asset features that could escalate into major incidents.
  • Conduct PSM stand-by duties.
  • Utilise consequence modelling, probability analysis to develop solutions.
  • Evaluate quality of previous risk studies and advise.
  • Support and monitor identification of PSCE for preventative maintenance purposes.
  • Utilize FER-SI tool to derive fire, explosion and toxic index.
  • Conduct PSM audits and plant inspections.
  • Assist in preparation for 3rd party audits and insurance engineer's visits, collect info, organize, plan, tracking follow up.
  • Participate in process safety culture transformation programmes.

 

Formal Education

University Bachelors Degree in Engineering: Chemical or Engineering: Mechanical

Working Experience

Experience: 11+ relevant years
