Purpose of Job

An Artisan Instrument Mechanician supports production by providing effective equipment maintenance and reliability while adhering to procedures/codes and utilising all available support resources to increase stability and maintain sustainability of the plant.

Key Accountabilities

Execution of tasks associated with maintenance inspections and strategies including trip tests. • Calibration and maintenance of instrumentation: Level, Flow, Pressure and Temperatures. • An ability to read and interpret instrument loop drawings, control logic diagrams, data sheets and associated technical documents. • Knowledge of EX and IS standards for hazardous areas. • Installation, testing and commissioning of instrumentation in accordance with Sasol specifications. • Proactive identification of instrumentation defects and mal-functioning. • Implementation of preventative maintenance activities. (Schedule work) • Need strong instrumentation and control system skills to do proper fault-finding and preventive maintenance. • Conduct data extraction and analysis from DCS/SIS PLC during fault-finding exercises (fault finding, trends etc.)

Formal Education

Grade 12 with Math’s, Science, English with the NQF 4 Occupational Trade Qualification

Red Seal (WISH)

Min Experience

3 - 5 years relevant experience

Experience on petro-chemical equipment (added advantage)

 

Good knowledge of the following systems:

SIEMENS S7 Knowledge (WISH)

DCS knowledge

ESD/SIS knowledge

Electrical & Instrument Loop drawings detail interpretation 

Read and interpret MFD (Mechanical flow diagram or Process flow diagram)

PLC fault-finding hardware & software 

Additional Requirements

Driver’s license (minimum code 8)

Have own transport

Perform standby duties
