Purpose of Job
This Turbine Fitter position will form part of the Centralized Maintenance Function within Sasolburg Operations reporting to the Turbo Group Foreman. This group is responsible for the running plant maintenance and outage inspections on various types of turbo machinery ranging from steam turbines, process gas compressors, vacuum blower and reciprocating compressors ect.
Key Accountabilities
The key responsibilities of this turbine fitter position would be to perform maintenance on all types of high speed rotating equipment. Execution of this maintenance activities is expected to be of an exceptional high standard and due to the criticality and applicable safety requirements including but not limited to;
- Work in accordance with quality plans and work procedures.
- Fault finding on rotating equipment, as well as auxiliary systems (eg, controls systems of a turbine)
- Be conversant with the technical parameters governing rotating equipment maintenance regarding, mechanical seal installation, bearing clearances, gaskets, rotors, couplings, alignment and protection devices.

Functional / Technical
- Maintenance on all types of high speed rotating equipment.
- Work in accordance with quality plans and work procedures.
- Fault finding on rotating equipment, as well as auxiliary systems (eg, controls systems of a turbine)
- Be conversant with the technical parameters governing rotating equipment maintenance regarding, mechanical seal installation, bearing clearances, gaskets, rotors, couplings, alignment and protection devices.
- Work according to CMMS SAP work orders (or similar)
Behavioural
- Feedback to customer (plant maintenance / production).
- Communicate with customer concerning machine condition, defects as/when required.
Formal Education
- Grade 12 with maths and science or N3 with maths, science and language – NQF Level 4
- Qualified as an Artisan Fitter NQF4 (Sasol or Olifantsfontein) (MUST) – NQF Level 4
- Valid Code 8 drivers licence (MUST)
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience on maintenance of high speed rotating equipment, after obtaining a NQF4 artisan certification, which should include:

- Steam Turbines
- Centrifugal compressors (barrel & spilt face type)
- Reciprocating compressors
- Centrifugal pumps (single and multi-stage)
- Positive displacement pumps
- Fans
- Blowers
- Gearboxes
- Installation of mechanical seals
- Laser alignment
- Balancing (would be beneficial)
- Fault finding on auxiliary systems
- Knowledge of ISO 18000 safety standards / similar safety systems
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 quality management system
