Purpose of Job

To organise complex production operations according to demand and quality standards to ensure goods are produced on time for distribution in a profitable manner.

Key Accountabilities

 

Service Level Agreement Delivery

 

  • Consistently deliver on all service level agreements.
  • Assist with first-line troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Interpret overall production performance and initiate actions to optimise through direct communication with all units.
  • Respond rapidly to production-related incidents and facilitate recovery to original production levels through effective directional communication.
  • Provide first-line recovery production plans to all units.
  • Provide maintenance status feedback to management.
  • Maintain a full understanding of the interrelationship and influences of all the units within the business.
  • Act as the primary response for emergency handling.

 

Quality and Operational Performance

 

  • Deliver quality, cost-effective service and support on time.
  • Conduct fault finding to determine the immediate cause of failures.
  • Identify and report defects affecting plant performance or safety.

 

Cost Awareness and Control

 

  • Maintain awareness, focus, and control of operational costs.

 

Technical Expertise and Operational Advice

 

  • Apply knowledge and experience to improve plant performance.
  • Identify and report at-risk behaviours.
  • Play a leading role in emergencies.
  • Ensure safe decommissioning of the plant during planned and unplanned shutdowns.
  • Assist in applying operational philosophies and operating conditions according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify plant upsets and take corrective measures.
  • Maintain quality and safety specifications.

 

Safety and Risk Management

 

  • Conduct Exposure behaviour-based safety (EBBS) observations.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Perform housekeeping and address deviations within working hours.
  • Conduct safety management system inspections.
  • Conduct and participate in risk assessments.
  • Participate in daily assurance meetings.

 

Maintenance and Asset Management

 

    • Load and prioritise SAP notifications.
    • Translate the production plan into operational actions, including shutdown schedules.
    • Participate in and conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and potential deviation analysis (PDA) during fault finding.
    • Investigate and provide information for RCA and PDA processes.
    • Participate in HAZOP studies.
    • Assist in shutdown coordination activities for production.
    • Understand and contribute to Management of Change (MOC) processes.
    • Participate in developing equipment maintenance strategies.
    • Contribute to establishing quality assurance systems and procedures.

Continuous Improvement and Projects

 

  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute technical expertise within project teams.
  • Develop or revise procedures and technical processes.

 

Technical Competence and Knowledge

 

  • Be recognised as the technical expert on shift.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the entire plant and its processes.

Formal Education

  • Grade 12 with Maths, Science, English, and NQF 4 Occupational Trade Qualification; OR NQF 4 academic qualification (with the NQF 4 Occupational Trade Qualification)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the relevant field as a Process Artisan and identified and measured Leadership competency.
  • The years of experience required will depend on the complexity of the plant and its technology.
