Purpose of Job

To support reliability studies on equipment, provide technical support on equipment fabrication, installation, start-up, inspection, and repair procedures, and implement needed improvements and best practices for asset reliability to ensure safety compliance, control risks, and optimise equipment / system reliability and life cycle cost.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan and safely execute work according to work instructions, quality requirements, deadlines, budget and schedules under no supervision.
  • Accountable for safe project execution and implementation of work procedures. i.e. HAZOPS, PDA39s, experimental plans etc.
  • Expert Troubleshooting, and addressing problems with equipment/processes in the labs and pilot plants.
  • Efficient &effective use of resources to ensure objectives are achieved and work delivered on time, in scope and within budget.
  • Assess technical work of peers and contractors.
  • The ability to work on multiple projects and/or requests with different priorities.
  • Manage complex schedules and communicate possible delays in meeting deadlines.
  • Manage multiple projects and/or requests on time, in scope, within budget, and to quality and customer requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation is compiled and of a good quality for a project/assignment.
  • Assist with the justification of optimal critical spares holding as well as assessing optimal maintenance interventions through life-cycle costing (LCC) analysis.
  • Data interpretation, contextualization and knowledge generation; understand the context in which work is being performed.
  • Participate in multiple projects with different priorities and manage cross boundary projects that have business impact.
  • Contribute towards resource allocation and efficient &affective work processes and procedures.
  • Deviation Management (DM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) inclusive of quality reporting of the outcomes and health of the management system.
  • Advocate of reliability business processes, procedures, work instructions, and practices in the relevant operating department.
  • Demonstrate the desired behaviours in agreement with the Sasol Values.
  • Take responsibility for personal performance, improvement and skills development; technical competence in the application of computer software and writing skills to be able to report effectively on work progress.
  • Share knowledge and skills with project leaders and team members.
  • Play a leading role in implementation of new technical ideas/opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge and good understanding of relevant technology in technical area.

  • Stay abreast of global trends, developments and opportunities in own area of work and implement technical & operational improvements.
  • Build, maintain and leverage effective networking and stakeholder relationships to increase knowledge and understanding of context to project.
  • Understand and address stakeholder requirements and ensure regular feedback.
  • Support the relevant personnel in the operations departments to obtain the necessary competence in reliability practices through training and coaching.
  • Share key information and ideas or learning with customers and teams.
  • Knowledge of all discipline engineering principles.
  • Familiar with other disciplines relevant to area of responsibility.
  • Policies, procedures, specifications and legal framework.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Formal Education

University Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering
