Purpose of Job

Manage, evaluate and ensure compliance to legal and other requirements with regards to Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene matters.

Key Accountabilities

Designing and ensuring implementation of basic Mine Ventilation systems and Occupational Hygiene programs

 

• Design ventilation layouts and follow up on the implementation of the layouts.

• Measure and test the effectiveness of the ventilation system

• Recommend improvements if required

• Implement mandatory Occupational Hygiene programs for designated areas and recommend improvements

 

Providing input into enhancing the Mine Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems and functions

 

• Attend operational planning and review meetings for a designated section of a mine.

• Addresses and makes recommendations regarding Mine Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene issues.

• Inputs into departmental communication processes.

• Contributes and participates in Mine Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene specific projects.

• Give input into the development, implementation and review of standards.

• Assists with the updating and review of Mine Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene procedures and training material.

• Assist with the implementation of corrective and remedial actions at the BU.

 

Supervising the mine ventilation and Occupational Hygiene function

 

• Executes performance management for a team of Ventilation/Occupational Hygiene recorders.

• Identify training requirements for subordinates based on individual performance.

• Plan and schedule the work to adhere to service level agreement.

• Ensure compliance to legal and other requirements.

• Ensure adherence to policies, standards and practices.

• Ensure reporting and correctness of Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters on relevant report forms.

• Checks that mine ventilation and rescue plans are updated and accurate.

• Optimize Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene instrumentation and initiate procurement of instrumentation when needed

• Perform routine surveys and inspections and make recommendations.

• Conducts audits on high-risk areas

• Use an effective Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene reporting system.

• Knowledge of Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene practices to assist mining personnel and department to deliver on the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene requirements.

• Knowledge of legal and other requirement applications.

Formal Education

Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 Mathematics and Science

Understand fundamentals of computer aided software.
