Purpose of Job

Appointment as Section 12.1 Mine Environmental and Occupational Hygiene Engineer to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and implement, monitor, and review protective and preventive safety measures to ensure safety in the workplace and that people follow health and safety guidelines.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure and Control legal compliance in terms of appointment and service level agreement.
  • Long Term Planning and Implementation of Ventilation Systems
  • Implementation and Management of Occupational Hygiene Monitoring Programme
  • Consultation with Line Management and Senior Management
  • Consultation with DMRE, Minerals Council and other regulatory bodies.
  • Reporting occupational hygiene and ventilation monitoring data, incidents, and illnesses according to regulatory requirements
  • Implementation and Management of a Hearing Conservation Programme
  • Implementation and Management of Emergency Procedures
  • Ensure legal conformance to procedures and standards in terms of Ventilation, Occupational Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness and response, Rescue, First Aid, Fire Prevention and Hazardous Substances
  • Daily Supervision and Management of Subordinates.
  • Problem identification and recommendation on remedial actions
  • Asset, cost control and administrative functions
  • Management of Departmental Safety, Create and maintain a positive team environment.

Formal Education

  • Relevant University Bachelors Degree/ BTech

Working Experience

  • Experience: 6+ relevant years

Certificates

  • Certificate in Mine Environment Control as recognised by the Mine Health and Safety Act (Absolute essential)
