MRS: Mining, Risk & SHE

Purpose of Job

To measure, monitor and report safe/unsafe working conditions with regards to Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene matters at the BU in Sasol Mining

Key Accountabilities

Collecting, recording and reporting mine occupational hygiene and ventilation condition data. 

 

Select, check, use and maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene measurement instruments.

Prepare for and take occupational hygiene and ventilation condition measurements, collect samples, test samples, record sample results.

Conduct compliance measurements, monitoring and inspections.

Ensure reporting and correctness of Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters on relevant report forms on condition observed.

Inputs data on the mine ventilation and rescue plan.

Ensure compliance to legal and other requirements.

Ensure compliance to the service level agreement.

Assist with the implementation of corrective and remedial actions at the BU

Optimise Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene instrumentation

 

Initiating appropriate actions to correct substandard mine occupational hygiene and ventilation conditions and report on actions taken 

 

Inspect work areas, identify sub-standard conditions, informs workers and management according to mine specific procedures

Determines causes of sub-standard conditions and decides what remedial action is required.

Records and reports verbally and in writing the observations and decisions made.

Creates awareness of appropriate mine ventilation and occupational hygiene practices.

Coach employees on correct application of appropriate mine ventilation and occupational hygiene practices

Control the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene work activities.

Knowledge of Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene practices to assist mining personnel and department to deliver on the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene requirements.

Formal Education

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 Mathematics and Science

• Understand fundamental of computer aided software.

• K53 licence

3+ relevant years

Certification

• Practical or Intermediate certificate in Mine Environmental Control
