Purpose of Job
- Lead the LVC Energy team to deliver on planned production targets in a manner that is safe, reliable, efficient and at minimal cost.
- Manage LVC Energy department's overhead costs and assets to ensure availability, long-term sustainability, and production efficiency.
- Introduce and monitor preventative measures to manage production downtime and ensure achievement of agreed production targets.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide leadership by articulating a clear vision, living the organisational values and ensuring the leadership team are aligned to support the direction of the organisation.
- Contribute to the translation and execution of the operational/refining business strategy, objectives and plan into action for employees.
- Set operational standards and targets and assure value from operational improvement initiatives.
- Cascade operational goals and long-term plans through effective two-way communication in the organisation.
- Produce refining outputs to required quality and to agreed production plan.
- Deliver high quality asset management strategies to ensure availability and long-term sustainability. Manage, revise and improve asset management standards.
- Drive continuous improvement activities by supporting and guiding management team and building a culture of pro-active operations.
- Compile annual long-term production budget providing input into a 5-year rolling capital plan.
- Develop new strategies to increase production with safe and cost-effective methods.
- Plan and set the budget to ensure the delivery of targets in accordance with the overarching business plan.
- Control cost to ensure production volumes are achieved within budget and manage internal and external costs as well as capital efficiency.
- Lead design decisions, managing implementation of Shutdown execution. Manage products, process materials, assets, waste and pollutants.
- Identification, quantification and take the lead in mitigation of process risks, continuous improvement of key process metrics to maintain license to operate Statutory compliance per plant.
- Manage operations risk by making sure that all risks are identified, analysed and mitigated to acceptable levels.
- Execution of SHE strategy to achieve zero harm, environmental compliance and FER-SR; RCR; BBS and IMS compliance.
- Apply evidence based SHE practices, in alignment with set standards, to ensure safe operations as well as playing a role in the reduction of Sasol's GHG footprint.
- Interaction with other Operations subject matter experts and establish necessary support from the Energy BU and/or Corporate Centre.
- Collaborate with Technical and Projects as well as Engineering to enable excellent operations.
- Ensure the adoption of fit for purpose standards, optimal planning and optimisation through in partnership with peers within and across the business.
- Ensure the execution of capital projects, in a manner that is safe, reliable, efficient and at minimum cost.
- Ensures the effective implementation of Sasol's risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
- Ensure the provision of technical services, equipment maintenance as well as the implementation of good practices for optimisation of efficient and effective operations, and production, in order to achieve set cost and volume targets (interfacing with the Asset Services and Operations Improvements portfolios).
- Drives safe and reliable operations through the appropriate management of assets (shutdowns, maintenance etc.) in order to maintain the long-term sustainability of the operation.
- Provide system and process intelligence to operations to drive continuous improvement and operations optimisation.
- Coach and manage operations team and build a high performing and caring culture.
- The individual in this position carries a legal appointment and must ensure compliance - 16(2) OHSA.
Formal Education
- University Degree or B Tech
- Postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
